Application Procedures
The Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is open to citizens of all nations, regardless of religion, race or gender.
Threshold requirements for the program

The applicant must possess a degree of Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Medicine from an accredited institution of higher learning (Israeli or international), or alternatively, has confirmation from such an institution of fulfillment of the requirements of a doctorate, including submission of a thesis.

No more than four years have elapsed since receiving confirmation of the doctorate and the designated date for the start of the Fellowship Program.
|

3.
|
A head of a research group at WIS has agreed to accept the candidate as a postdoctoral fellow for a term of fellowship in his/her group (not applicable in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science).
|
|
4.
|
Existence of a funding source for the fellowship (i.e., from the Dean of the Faculty, from the host scientist's research fund, or from an external foundation).
|
|
5.
|
Once the application file is complete, the application must be reviewed and approved. If the application also involves a request for a fellowship by the Dean of the Faculty then it must be reviewed and approved by a Faculty Committee. Otherwise, the application must be reviewed and approved by the Chair of the Board of Studies of the corresponding faculty. In the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, ALL candidates must be reviewed and approved by a Faculty Committee (regardless of the type of fellowship).

Deadline for Submitting an Application to the Program Candidates may apply to the program at any time during the year. Please note that the selection process for applications for the Dean of Faculty Fellowship in all faculties is held twice a year. The deadlines for submitting applications to these fellowships are January 5th and July 15th.
First Steps in the Application Procedure

Find a Head of a Research Group at WIS who will be willing to host him/her as a postdoctoral fellow (not applicable in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science).

2.
|
Submit an online registration form. This service is not available from midnight to 2 a.m. (Israel time).
|
|
3.
|
Applicants who are not FGS graduates are required to submit an electronic application file (see below).
|
|
4.
|
Each application must be reviewed and approved. In the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science this is done by a special Faculty Committee. In all other faculties it is done by the chair of the Board of Studies.

Electronic Application File The required documents listed below must be sent together in a WORD or a PDF format as Email attachements.

Important Please note that incomplete application files will not be reviewed or considered for approval.
Required Documents The Candidate must send the FGS the following documents - all documents together please (except for reference letter – see below). All documents in neither Hebrew nor English must be translated (with a notary approval) into one of these two languages.

Curriculum Vitae including a list of publications

Either a formal approval of the doctorate degree, or, a formal approval that the thesis has been submitted + an estimate for the time it will take to approve the degree, or (for the purpose of the application only), a letter from the Ph.D. advisor stipulating the expected date of the submission of the thesis.

A copy of the Israeli ID (Israeli applicants), or a copy of the title page of the passport (foreign applicants).
|
|

|
At least two reference letters (including a letters from the Ph.D. advisor)
|

|
A letter of support from the WIS scientist (this letter may be sent separately).
|
|

|
A medical summary signed by the candidate's family physician (the medical summary report should be sent only by canddiates accepted to the program).

About the Letters of Reference
|
1.
|
The subject of each reference letter should include the candidate's name followed by the phrase: "Postdoctoral Fellowship Applicant".
|
|
2.
|
There is no particular form or format for the reference letters.
|
|
3.
|
Reference letters that arrive at the FGS prior to the application file are held until the corresponding application file is received.
|
|
4.
|
Letters may be sent to the FGS either by post, fax or email.
|
|
5.
|
If an applicant has a reference letter given to him/her, he/she may attach it to the other documents. Letters in sealed envelopes may be sent along with the application file.
