First Administrative Steps The following list contains some useful information concerning administrative requirements to be carried out at the beginning of your doctoral studies at Feinberg Graduate School of the Weizmann Institute of Science. We wish you success in your studies and research,
FGS Office Hours Sunday through Wednesday from 9:00 to 14:00 Thursday from 9:00 to 13:00
Notice of acceptance to studies: "Signature Form" Upon receiving notice of your admission ("Signature Form") please read the Code of Ethics for Feinberg Graduate School Students and obtain current information from your advisor (head of your research group) regarding dangerous materials and other safety issues pertinent to your group's laboratories that may endanger your health or safety. Afterwards, please sign the form, noting the starting date agreed upon with the group head, ask him/her to sign it, and arrange (through the department secretary) that the department head signs too. Thereafter, please verify that the form is returned to the FGS Office. Please note: physics, mathematics and computer science students must return the signed form immediately. Chemistry and life science students are first required to find an advisor. Life science students are allowed only up to ten weeks to find an advisor and submit the form to the FGS Office.
Letter of Admission After the FGS Office receives the returned "Signature Form" and close to the starting date of your studies as indicated on the form, FGS will issue a "letter of admission" and send it to you with copies for other offices on campus. In certain instances the "Letter of Admission" is sent together with the "Signature Form".
Registering at the Department Office Please visit the office of the scientific department to which your research group belongs, introduce yourself and receive an update of all the department rules and regulations. The department secretary will assist you in all matters concerning research services and especially email and computer services - including "Internal Services". This service will enable you to check your course grades, verify your deadlines for submission of reports/thesis, register for courses and exams (if required), and view your days of absence.
Administrative Registeration at FGS When submitting the "Signature Form" to the FGS, you need to complete the administrative registration process by contacting Ms. Dana yanay at 08-934-6444.
Intellectual Property Rights Form You should sign the aforesaid consent form when you register at the Human Resources Division (see above). For your information, you will not be allowed to commence studies (and certainly not receive a stipend) without signing this form.
Photograph You also have to go to the Photography Department in the Goldschmidt Building to be photographed. The photo is mandatory and a prerequisite for obtaining a student card. It can be attended to on Mondays, from 10:30 to 12:00.
Student Card After being photographed you should notify Ms. Dana Yanay (6444) so she can monitor the issue of your student card. The FGS office will notify you and your card will be mailed to you at your department. Please check that a colored sticker is attached to the reverse side of the card (for discounts on public transportation). The card will be encoded to enable you to enter the WIS campus, the libraries, and various buildings If you should have to enter a building for which you do not have clearance, please contact your department administrator to arrange the matter.
Confirmation of Studies It is presumed you will be required to present a confirmation of studies to various bodies (governmental or commercial). A certificate to this effect may be issued for you during regular FGS office hours.
Vehicle Entry Pass At the conclusion of the registration process (at FGS - Ms. Dana yanay) you will be assigned an HR number. Following this you may go to the Security Department office (adjacent to the main gate) to receive a vehicle entry sticker.
Safety training Eevery student must attend safety training (even if they had such training in another institution). The training session is to be coordinated with the Department of Safety. Life science students who will be conducting research with animals are required to receive special training (in addition to the obligatory safety course offered during the first week of the first semester every year). Additional information is available from the Safety Department (Tel: 08-934-3844, or at the department's homepage).
Visas and Health Insurance for Foreign Students Foreign students must have a student visa stamped into their passport. Having health insurance for the entire period of the visa is a precondition for receiving such a visa. Please read carefully the relevant instructions regarding the steps to be taken to receive the visa. Please contact Ms. Eti Colb (Tel: 08-934-4536) during the special hours reserved for questions or requests for assistance regarding student visas and health insurance for foreign students – Mondays from 9:00 to 11:00.
