Annual Allocation
MSc:

Absence of up to 14 days per year is not considered as a disruption to the expected course of studies.

PhD:

Absence of up to 26 days per year is not considered as a disruption to the expected course of studies.

Postdoc:

Absence of up to 22 days per year is not considered as a disruption to the expected course of training.

Using the days of absence
The calendar year, for this purpose, starts on October 1st and ends on September 30th. Being absent for more than this specified period is considered a disruption to the course of studies and thus not allowed. Naturally, a fellowship will not be paid during that time. In very special cases (and with the approval of the advisor), the school may increase the number of the allowed days of absence in a particular year. In case there is an ongoing dispute, or difference of opinion, concerning the use of the allocated days of absence between a student and his/her advisor, the student should consult with the school.

Reporting Requirements
Students must report on their absence online. The report of absences due to childbirth must be accompanied by the relevant documents. The FGS staff member in charge of handling student reports is
Ms. Dana Yanay: 08-934-6444.

Postdoctoral Fellows who need to report on childbith or submit forms and documents related to childbirth or MILUIM, must contact the HR coordinator who handles HR matters for their scientific department.

Absence due to Illness
Sick leave is not considered as part of the allowed annual days of absence:
MSc:

Up to 30 days per year

PhD:

Up to 30 days per year

Postdoc:

Up to 26days per year

Maternity Leave
Please see the relevant section under "Policy".

Absence without a Fellowship

Absence without receiving a fellowship requires advance approval from the FGS (please note that it is usually not approved). If nevertheless approved, HR will use first the student’s unused days of absence.

Special Absence
As mentioned above, absence for more than the usual allocation is considered a disruption to the expected course of studies and therefore requires an approval from the FGS. A fellowship may not be paid during such absence – even if approved by the FGS.

Studies and Research on Fridays
Fridays are considered as half study days. Therefore, absence on a Friday is calculated as "half day". Heads of Research Groups may allow their students to be absent on Fridays without the need to report on absence.

Military Reserve Duty

Students called up for reserve duty during the academic year and/or the exam period, wishing to shorten or postpone the service, must contact their reserve unit commander or their liaison officer.

Upon request, the FGS will grant extensions to deadlines of reports or a thesis to students who were called-up for reserve duty during their studies. The extensions will be equal to the time served. The School will grant such extensions only if the absence was properly reported online.

Students who miss an exam due to their IDF reserve service are entitled to take the exam on another date (i.e. "MOED BET")
While a student is on reserve duty, his/her fellowship will remain intact.

Most important: Students who are absent due to reserve duty must report his/her absence (like any other absence) online, and submit form 3010 to the FGS Fellowship Coordinator.

Participation in International Conferences, Seminars or Courses
Participation in international conferences, seminars, or courses is not calculated as days of absence.
