Exams at FGS
Schedule for Exams and Grades Regarding exams, the lecturer coordinates the date with FGS. Exam dates are preset (within the first month of the course) in order to enable the students to select their schedule of courses more efficiently. Final papers have to be submitted no later than one month after the end of the exam period. Exams are usually held during the exam period at the end of each semester. Registration for Exams In certain courses (in Life Sciences and in Chemical Sciences) in which exams are conducted, it is mandatory to pre-register for exams. (If pre-registration is mandatory, it is noted in the syllabus.) Registration is conducted via the Intranet. The last date for registering for the exam is noted in the exam specifications appearing on the FGS website. Students interested in taking such an exam must pre-register for it in order to ensure their place.
ID Numbers Instead of Names on Examination Notebooks Students should write their ID number instead of their full name on examination notebooks. Foreign citizens should write their passport number.
Additional Time for Exams Students may request an extension of the examination time (usually an additional 15 minutes for every exam hour). A request for extending exam time must be accompanied by medical or other documents. Taking Exams and Second Exam Period ("Moed Bet") Students taking exams may leave the exam without submitting the test booklet. This will not be graded as a failure, but the student will not be allowed to take the exam at a later date (Moed Bet). However, as a rule, FGS does not permit a second exam period, except in the following cases: military reserve duty, maternity leave, an illness, participation in a scientific conference or absence due to a "force majeure" (e.g. mourning period for a relative). In this case, FGS requires the student to take a "Moed Bet" exam. All other cases require FGS approval. "Moed Bet" in order to improve a low grade is not permitted. An exception to this rule is failing a course or an exam (i.e., a grade of Fail or 55).
Copying on Exams or Plagiarizing in Dissertations Students caught copying on an exam or plagiarizing in a dissertation will be punished to the fullest – even including permanent expulsion from FGS. |
