Credit Points and Grades

Credit Points

Each Board of Studies is sovereign to decide on the number of credit points for each course. Therefore, students from different fields of studies may be awarded a different number of credit points for the same course. Each year the Board of Studies may revise the credit assignments for courses and change them. However, once a student has received a grade in a course, the number of credit points may not change.

Accumulation of Credit Points (PhD Studies)
It's obligatory to accumulate half of the required credit points or courses by the time the Interim Report is due, and complete the rest by the deadline of Final Report.

Accumulation of Credit Points (MScStudies)
It's obligatory to accumulate all the required credit points or courses by end of the second semester of the second year. First year credit accumulation must be according to the requirementsof the relevant Board of Studies.

Participation in Courses at Other Institutions of Learning
Participation in courses at other institutions of learning for credit requires authorization by the relevant Board of Studies. The request to recognize such credits must be submitted in advance (no later than the 2nd week of the semester). Only the Board of Studies is empowered to decide how many credits the students receive if they successfully complete the said course (often independent of the number of credits awarded by the institution giving the course). Approved external courses will not be recorded in the FGS grade transcript. The aforesaid is also true for intensive courses offered to participants at international conferences. Students who wish to provide proof to a third party of their participation in external courses must request a transcript from the external institution and keep it for future reference.

International Courses and Workshops
FGS encourages its students to participate in international courses and workshops. The policy regarding credit points and transcripts is similar to that of courses taken at other institutions of learning (see above).

Teaching Assistants
Teaching assistants may NOT be awarded credit points for courses in which they are paid to teach, and/or tutor, and/or grade exercises and exams. Furthermore, these courses can not be listed on their transcript.

Deleting Grades

Grades may NOT be deleted from the grade transcript; however, additional credits may be accrued for inclusion in the grade average.
